The Massachusetts Youth Soccer GOALS Program has been developed to provide a rewarding athletic and life experience to inner-city children throughout Massachusetts. Not only do our GOALS kids learn about the game of soccer, but they also have a tremendous opportunity to learn valuable life lessons they will carry with them long after they leave the soccer field. They develop lasting friendships, learn leadership skills, teamwork, trust, self-confidence and a sense of commitment all while playing in a fun and competitive environment.
Our GOALS Program is also designed to provide our young players with role models to serve as positive and motivating influences in their lives. Massachusetts Youth Soccer hires and trains college students, many of whom are studying to become teachers or counselors, to coach our players. Our GOALS Program has been widely successful in teaching and motivating our young players’ life skills and presenting positive role models in their lives.
The Goals Camps run from June through August. During the summer of 2015, the GOALS Program partnered with 33 organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs, Recreational and Community Centers and YMCAs to provide GOALS Camps at NO COST to the players. Mass Youth Soccer and its partners provide all of the coaches, soccer balls and equipment to run each Camp. We organized camps in following areas:
Boston Area: Blackstone CC, Cambridge CC, Cambridge DHSP, Charleston B&GC, Chelsea Collaborative, Dorchester B&GC, Franklin Hill B&GC, Franklin Park Tennis, Hawthorne YCCC, Orchard Gardens B&GC, Roxbury YMCA, Revere Rec. Dept., Somerville YMCA, Sportsmen’s Tennis, Yawkey Club Roxbury B&GC.
Central Massachusetts: Fitchburg MOC, Leominster B&GC, Southbridge Cops & Kids, Worcester Rec, Dept., Worcester YMCA –Central, Worcester YWCA
Southeastern Massachusetts: Brockton B&GC, Greater Fall River Rec., New Bedford B&GC
Northeastern Massachusetts: Beyond Soccer, Lawrence B&GC, Lowell B&GC
Western Massachusetts: Chicopee B&GC, Holyoke B&GC, Springfield B&GC
This past summer we had 4,600 players at these inner-city sites. We hope to provide opportunities to many more children each year.
Goals in the News - Seth Daniel, Chelsea Record, July 22nd 2016
"Four days a week, soccer is where it’s at for local young people in Chelsea who want to get down to business and score goals.
In its third year, the Chelsea Collaborative’s Summer Youth Employment Initiative (SYEI) and the GOALS program of the Massachusetts Youth Soccer organization have teamed up again this summer to provide soccer games and light instruction to Chelsea young people. The drop-in program started in late June and takes place Monday through Thursday at Highland Park Field from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The activity is free and supervised by qualified coaches and by Chelsea youth working in the summer program."
