Olympic Development Program Tryouts In General
ODP Tryouts are open tryouts. Players do not need an invitation or a recommendation to participate. No recommendation of any kind or from any source on behalf of any player will be accepted or entertained at any time prior to the Open Tryout period. U.S. Youth Soccer and Massachusetts Youth Soccer organize and assign ODP teams by CALENDAR YEAR. For example, if a player was born in 2000 that player must try out for the 2000 or U17 team in the 2017 ODP year. All ODP Tryouts will be conducted at the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Fields at Progin Park in Lancaster, MA. For directions CLICK HERE
U12-U14 will tryout as split age groups. Players born January through June will tryout together as the “Olders” and players bornJuly through December will tryout together as the “Youngers”. We do this as studies have shown that most national team programs selected 80% of their players who were born within the first half of any given year. It is aimed to take an equal amount of “Olders” and “Youngers” for the U12, U13, and U14 age groups.
All Tryouts for the Massachusetts Youth Soccer ODP will be conducted on the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Fields at Progin Park in Lancaster, MA. Players must check in at the Pavillion before each of their tryout session.

Attendance and T-Shirts
Players are only required to attend one tryout session. However, we recommend that they attend as many as possible. This will enable the ODP Evaluators to see as much of the individual’s play as possible. Each player will receive 2 t-shirts with their tryout number on them when they check in for tryouts on the 1st day. Each player will be evaluated using this number. It is the player's responsibility to bring both t-shirts to each tryout session he or she attends. If a player loses one or both shirts the player will be required to purchase replacement t-shirt(s) for an additional $20. Players MUST NOT wear previous years' t-shirts to the current year's tryouts as this can create confusion with unrecorded and double numbers. PLAYER also MUST NOT wear any clothing or equipment that identifies for which Club they play.
For the 2016 to 2017 season, we will be implementing a goalkeeper academy for the Olympic Development Program. During tryouts, players who want to try out for the goalkeeper position will be evaluated as they always have been with goalkeeper specific training followed by a scrimmage which includes both field players and goalkeepers. The goalkeepers will be assessed on their ability to stop shots, distribute the ball, and organize the defense in front of them. The top performing goalkeepers will then be invited to join the goalkeeper academy. They will have five dates during the winter months of both training and classroom sessions. Once the spring season begins they will train at the same time as the field players. Every other week, the top two goalkeepers from the previous week’s goalkeeper training session will be selected to join the team training session. The remainder of the goalkeepers will work with the goalkeeping staff. Our hopes are to create a more competitive training environment for the goalkeepers as well as make a better connection between the top goalkeepers and the field players within each given team.
If a player is unable to make any of the scheduled ODP Tryout Sessions, you must send an email to ODP Manager, Lynn Gugliuzza at Lynng@mayouthsoccer.org and have the player's coach fill out a Recommendation Form. This form is ONLY for players who cannot make any of the Tryout dates.
