Specialty Clinics Now Cheaper and More Diverse
Mass Youth Soccer has recently reconstructed and updated its Specialty Clinics. These clinics have been created to help advance the knowledge of coaches at all levels across the state. Some, you will see, are more focused on elite players, and others are geared toward developing players. A clinic consists of an intense two-hour session, which concentrates on one of 23 specifically developed themes:
  • U6 Specialty
  • U8 Specialty
  • U10 Specialty
  • U12 Specialty
  • Passing & Possession
  • Passing & Receiving
  • Goalkeeping
  • Technical Skills
  • Shooting & Attacking The Goal
  • Finishing & Attacking
  • Defending
  • Dribbling & Feinting
  • Zonal Defending 1
  • Zonal Defending 2
  • Combination Play
  • Building Out Of The Back
  • Team Building (Sports Psych 13-18)
  • Basic Tactical Situations
  • Match Analysis/Scouting
  • Art Of Coaching (Team/Player Management)

The clinics are designed to pinpoint specific problems a team or organization might be facing.  Not only do the sessions focus on technical and tactical parts of the game, there are now sessions catered toward teams that need a psychological boost, whether it is player-coach relations or team cohesion. Our development staff is willing to construct a clinic on any topic that is specialized to your organization's needs.
For a flat rate of $150, a clinic combines theory, demonstration, active participation, and practical activities to take back to your players. Each coach will be provided with materials that outline the theory and activities highlighted during the session. Plan ahead, because our staff needs a three-week minimum notice to request a course!  We ask that the minimum number of participants is 10. If you have more than 30 coaches participating, a second instructor will be added at the additional cost of $100. An outdoor space must be provided, including a back-up indoor facility.  There are no requirements for coaches participating, just a willingness to learn and have fun! Fill out a request form on our website at www.mayouthsoccer.org. For more information, contact Tara Petricca at tpetricca@mayouthsoccer.org.

Skills Academy

The Mass Youth Soccer Skills Academy will provide intense skill training for highly motivated players ages U11 & U12 who are affiliated with Mass Youth Soccer. Sessions will be dynamic and fast paced and will cover all areas of technical development. Players will be asked to perform technical skills at speed and be taught the skills they need to perform at their highest potential. This training has been created as a direct result of our coaches evaluating play in the state and determining priority needs of Massachusetts players.

Coaches interested in observing training or shadowing the instructors will receive a syllabus and attend any and all sessions for free. Coaches are welcome to ask instructors questions at the end of the session as this program is meant to benefit players and coaches. Please contact Tara Petricca at tpetricca@mayouthsoccer.org if you would like to attend a session.

Transition Clinics

One of the most common questions we are asked at coaching courses is, “What is the best formation?” Whether people are asking about the best formation for 6 vs. 6, 8 vs. 8 or 11 vs. 11, the question remains the same. Often times it is a bit scary for a coach who has never coached 11 vs. 11 to head into a season and organize his/her team. The same can be said for 8 vs. 8 or 6 vs. 6. There is no need to go into the season worried. Our coaches are happy to come to your organization and run a fun interactive session in which the strengths and weaknesses of every formation are reviewed and compared. We will make a game out of it and have coaches walking through formations to highlight areas of strength and weakness. This will be an informative and fun way to get prepped for the upcoming season. To schedule one of these clinics please contact Tara Petricca at tpetricca@mayouthsoccer.org.

Board Meetings

One of our Development coaches can come out to your meeting, and discuss any topics that you choose. The soccer world and organizations within the soccer world are constantly changing and developing. Chances are the ideas and changes you are contemplating have been discussed previously by another organization in this state or another. There is no need to recreate the wheel. It is much easier to learn from others' successes and failures and our staff can let you know what other towns or clubs have tried to address the same concerns you are discussing. Whether it be a proven path of player development, maintaining a volunteer network, or structuring a board and board meetings to maximize efficiency, our staff is happy to share the information that is already out there and help ease the path for your organization.

Player/Coach Development

Many towns and clubs have asked if our coaches can provide regular in-season training for their players and/or coaches. The answer is definitely! Our coaches, which are the most qualified and professional staff in the state, are happy to work with organizations throughout the season. We can set up weekly age groups clinics in which we train players and use your coaches as assistants or we can come to your practice and help with your team(s). Whenever we come we will arrive with a syllabus of the day and all of our sessions are always open to coaches wanting to help or observe. In some areas, our coaches run entire age group practices by meeting with all age group coaches before practice to go over the syllabus. The team coaches then run their own practice with their team and our staff provides assistance by floating from one team to another during the day. We are happy to work out ways to benefit your players and coaches in any way we can

Tryouts

It seems more and more organizations are wanting to run tryouts with independent evaluators. There are obvious benefits to this. By using our coaches for your tryouts you also get the benefit of having experienced professionals who have run tryouts and selected players of all ages and levels (youth travel to ODP to college to professional) for many years. We will also help organize the tryout and offer pointers on how to best evaluate the players and are happy to run the tryout if that is your desire.

Symposium Information

Each winter, we present a two-day, weekend Symposiums. Distinguished coaches from abroad and from other regions of the United States are invited to offer lectures and practical sessions on various elements of soccer – both elementary and advanced.
