Mass Youth Soccer Teams Represent State at Nationals

Three Teams Represent Mass Youth Soccer at National Championships in Little Rock, Arkansas

Mass Youth Soccer is proud to acknowledge the accomplishments of the FC Stars of Mass. Girls 14 teams, Scorpions SC Girls 15 team, and the Boston Blast Boys 15 team.  These teams fell short of winning it all but we are extremely proud of their accomplishments and wish them all the best of luck next year!

G14 Region 1 Champions - Stars of Massachusetts

The Stars of Mass came up just a bit short in the national championship match on the Saturday evening, losing 2-0 to the team from Cal North.

Play was even early on in the Under-14 Girls National Championship between San Juan Spirits 94 Blue (CA-N) and FC Stars of Massachusetts.  San Juan was awarded a free kick where an airborne Kyla Booker flipped the ball into the back of the net in the 18th to give San Juan the 1:0 lead.
Looking to add insurance, a free kick would again be the source, now from the right side where Alyssa Jara found the ball and fired.  The Stars keeper made a play but could only deflect where Booker again collected and scored in the 26th.

G15 Region 1 Champions - Scorpions SC

A special message from the Scorpions' Head Coach, Keith Caldwell

Our girls came a long way this year.  All the credit to them.  They were dealt with a lot of adversity.  But instead of making excuses, they just worked harder.
Overall, it was a fantastic year.  It was an absolute pleasure working with the team; they are just an incredible group of girls.
Little Rock was an unbelievable experience.  As a team, we learned so much.  But the girls are such competitors; Nationals has just made them want to train even harder. But they know they have their work cut out for them just to get out of the state again next year.  The quality of teams at this age group in Massachusetts is just unbelievable.  We're looking forward to the challenge.

[The 15 girls, Scorpions played a hard series,  lost to Cal South 2-1,  lost to a second team from Cal South 3-0 and lost to North Texas 3-1]

B15 Region 1 Finalist - Boston Blast
(Region 1's representative at National Championships)

The Under-15 boys Baltimore Casa Mia Bays continued their dominating ways in their opening game of the national championships.  After winning both the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships, and the US Youth Soccer National League, the Bays took a 5-0 win over the Boston Blast in their first game.  The score line may not accurately represent the play of the game though as the Bays scored four goals in the final 20 minutes of play.
Steve Nichols' Baltimore side found it easy going in the early stages as they controlled play, and capitalized in the 10th minute when Julian Griggs took a cross at the far post and headed it in for the 1-0 Bays lead.
The heat and humidity is a hot topic in Arkansas, and the Bays started to feel it 30 minutes into the game.
The Bays would regain their strength in the 2nd half, and with 20 minutes left last year's golden boot winner Jonathan Guzman struck to make it 2-0.
Guzman's goal opened the game up as Griggs netted twice more for his hat-trick within five minutes.  Substitute Logan McHugh wrapped up the scoring with a great individual effort dribbling into the box to get the 5th goal.  Goalkeeper Timothy Peitsch preserved the shutout between the pipes for the Bays.
