Host a Course

The continued development of youth coaches is a priority for Mass Youth Soccer. It serves as the foundation for continued player development.

Mass Youth Soccer offers a variety of coaching license courses and other coaching programs to its member organizations. In most cases, the organization takes the lead to schedule one of these coaching programs for its own coaches.

The state office is ready to assist you with the details of scheduling a course or a series of courses for your organization. The first step is to contact, Tara Petricca, our Instructional Administrator, (tpetricca@mayouthsoccer.org) to determine if the dates you have in mind are available.

In the links below, we have provided a series of checklists and forms to make the job of scheduling a coaching license course a bit easier. Course forms can be accessed under this Coaching section of the site.

Responsibilities of Site Coordinator

Arranging these MANDATORY facilities for the course:

  • A classroom or auditorium for lectures.
  • A full size gym, in case of rain.  (The classroom or auditorium and the gym must each be available for the entire duration of the course.)
  • Women's and men's bathrooms.
  • In warm weather months, a field.

Pre-registering course participants - and making sure that all the participants are members of Mass Youth Soccer affiliated teams.

Being available to register "walk-in" participants 15 minutes before the beginning of a course.

Distributing course materials to the coaches at the beginning of each course.  These will have been sent to you directly from the Mass Youth Soccer office.

Being present - or delegating someone else to be present - for the duration of the course to deal with possible emergencies.  If you are going to take the course, you should delegate someone else to assume this responsibility.

Site Coordinators should also inform all the coaches who are going to participate in a course:

  • Courses begin promptly at the designated time.
  • Coaches should bring a soccer ball, a water bottle, and a notebook, and their own lunch, if the course is an all-day one.
  • Coaches should come dressed looking like a coach and ready to participate actively.

Note:  Playing skill does not matter in any of the Mass Youth Soccer courses - even the D.  Participation in the practical, active sessions of the D Course is required; participation in the G, F, and E Courses is strongly encouraged but not required.  And while none of the courses is overly rigorous physically, the active sessions (about half of each course) involve more exercise than most coaches are used to.  Coaches are encouraged to exercise and stretch to prepare themselves for a course and to arrive at a course ready for a vigorous day.
